It appears Liverpool’s Spanish midfielder Pedro Chirivella has found himself a new team.

As reported by French publication 20 Minutes, the 22-year-old has signed a deal with the French side Nantes and will be unveiled as a new player next week.

The report claims that Chirivella will sign a three-year deal with La Maison Jaune and join on a free transfer when his contract at Liverpool expires.

That is currently due to be the 30th June, so there is some confusion over whether Chirivella will leave then or if his deal at Liverpool may be extended if the Premier League season overruns that date.

Chirivella joined Liverpool from Valencia in 2013 as a talented Spanish under-17 international that the club had high hopes for. However, he has never cemented a first-team spot at Anfield, with loan spells at Dutch sides Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II providing him with the most regular playing time.

That said, he has shown signs of his progress this season. Chirivella played in three FA Cup and EFL cup games this season, including an excellent display against Everton in the FA Cup win at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp is clearly a fan. The Liverpool boss called him the best player on the pitch (Liverpoolfc.com) when captaining an inexperienced side to a 5-0 loss to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

“But I cannot understand why nobody asked me so far about Pedro Chirivella, Neco Williams or Yasser Larouci.

“Pedro played and in the first half against Aston Villa was probably the best player on the pitch, we watched it on television in Qatar and we were completely over the moon about what we saw there.”

But with a chance to play regular football in France the young Spaniard could be making the best move for his career and at a good time to do so.

Liverpool will no doubt wish him all the best going forward and also keep tabs on his progress going forward.
