Report: Paratici eyes teenage 'diamond' who could join Tottenham for free
Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici is reportedly interested in signing AS Monaco youngster Mamadou Coulibaly, who could be free to sign this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, the Italian football official is a big fan of the teenage midfielder, with Coulibaly’s contract with Monaco set to expire at the end of this season should the Ligue 1 club fail to sign the talent to a professional contract.
A regular with the France U-18 squad, Coulibaly is yet to make his senior debut for Monaco, however, the 17-year-old is highly-regarded in his homeland, with Foot Mercato labelling the midfielder as a ‘diamond’ for the Monegasques.
However, the same Foot Mercato report mentions that Bundesliga side Hoffenheim are also chasing the teenager, which could cause problems for Tottenham given the tendency of German clubs to start youth players, something Spurs likely won’t offer Coulibaly.
Indeed, Coulibaly won’t be the first talented midfielder Tottenham have targeted from France since Paratici’s appointment. Spurs landed Pape Sarr last summer before sending the 19-year-old back to France on loan with Metz.
With the Senegalese youngster showing signs of huge promise, Tottenham could look to repeat the signing with Coulibaly, who could turn out to be a bargain signing for the north London side should the teenager leave Monaco for free.
Coulibaly might be a masterstroke Tottenham signing for Paratici
With Coulibaly a regular at youth level with France, signing him could be an easy solution for Tottenham despite strict Brexit rules, and for Paratici, the midfielder could be a sensational signing on the cheap for the Italian.
A box-to-box midfielder who has impressed in front of goal this season as per Foot Mercato, the youngster could be the next youth player to make their way to Tottenham and impress on the grandest of stages in the Premier League.
