Report: Paratici's Nuno Mendes relationship key as Tottenham near Nuno Santo appointment
Tottenham are edging ever closer to having news on a new manager it seems, with Nuno Espirito Santo emering as the frontrunner this week.
Spurs’ long-winded search for a successor to Jose Mourinho seems to be drawing to a close. According to the Guardian, the club are moving towards appointing Santo as their new boss.
It’s suggested the former Wolves manager is high on the list of new Spurs supremo, Fabio Paratici. Further, the Guardian reveals that the Italian holds a good relationship with Jorge Mendes. This, it seems, is key to any deal being concluded.
Spurs landing Santo would represent an appointment which would once again split fans. The Tottenham supporters played a part in ensuring Gennaro Gattuso wasn’t appointed. However, it’s unlikely Santo will be met with such disdain.
The Portuguese boss has attracted a number of suitors this summer. Everton were linked, while Lazio have also been credited with an interest as well.
Daniel Levy’s search for a new boss has been almost farcial. Paulo Fonseca came close. Antonio Conte rejected it at the last minute, and then the Gattuso debacle followed.
Santo, it seems, will at least offer a safe pair of hands in the immediate.
Not the news all Tottenham fans wanted but Santo could prove them wrong
There will always be those who don’t want a manager. But some might be looking at this with short-termism. Yes, Wolves weren’t great last season.
But Santo also led them to a top half finish and Europe. Surely, then, that is worth some merit and a chance from Tottenham fans?
Given the mess Levy has made of this whole process, the club could do far worse than Santo. He at least knows the league, and with Mendes on board as well as Paratici, it opens up new markets.
