Report: Panathinaikos in talks to sign Celtic midfielder

Greek outlet SDNA have claimed that Panathinaikos are interested in signing Celtic midfielder Kouassi Eboue this summer, with talks scheduled between the two parties over a move.

The 21-year-old is likely to be surplus to requirements at Parkhead this summer after managing just five appearances at Celtic last summer, with an anterior cruciate ligament injury preventing his progress.

Indeed, the Ivory Coast international has only managed 22 appearances for Celtic since his £2.8million (Scotsman) move from Russian side Krasnodar in January 2017. He is well down the pecking order at Parkhead.

It is believed that Panathinaikos sporting director Nikos Dabizas – who used to play for Newcastle United – has scheduled talks with Celtic in order to tempt them with an offer for Kouassi.

It remains to be seen if the Greek outfit want to sign Kouassi on a permanent deal, or on loan. It is likelier that given Eboue’s age, he may go on loan until for the 2019-20 campaign.

TBR’s view – Panathinaikos loan ideal for Celtic star Eboue

Celtic have an abundance of central midfield talent. The likes of Scott Brown, Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie are all considered above Kouassi.

Celtic’s number 88 was bought as a teenager and supposedly set to become Brown’s long-term successor in the middle of the park. But he was one of few examples of Brendan Rodgers’ failed signings at Celtic.

He needs game time and a loan to a club as big as Panathinaikos would be an excellent move for Kouassi.
