The Athletic claim that Crystal Palace are set to beat West Ham, Newcastle United and other Premier League clubs to the signing of Chelsea defender Marc Guehi. A fee could go as high as £20million. Guehi will undergo a medical at Palace on Thursday, and put pen to paper on a five-year deal.
Guehi, 21, has caught the eye after impressing on loan at Swansea City over the last 18 months. Clocking up 59 appearances under Steve Cooper, Guehi will now join a Premier League club. Playing 45 times in 2020-21, he was crucial to Swansea in keeping 18 clean sheets. He has a contract until 2023.
The new report claims that Guehi is about to join Palace, with a medical scheduled on Thursday. It is said that a fee is likely to be between £15million and £20million. Other Premier League clubs interested include West Ham, Newcastle, Southampton, Norwich and Brentford.

Guehi a huge coup for Palace – West Ham needed him
Though he is quite expensive. Guehi is a proper talent but ultimately, he is unproven in the Premier League and it is a bit of a risk from Palace’s point of view. As well as that, Palace need numerous additions and centre-back is a priority – but spending £20million on Guehi is likely to be a large chunk.
Nevertheless, it is another example of Patrick Vieira and Dougie Freedman looking to sign young, English – or English-based – talent. Michael Olise was a bargain at £8million and Guehi has enormous resale value. Excellent business that the likes of West Ham and Newcastle should be jealous of.
