Report: 'Outstanding' 17-year-old Arsenal prospect could be set to go on senior squad's pre-season tour
17-year-old prospect Lino Sousa could be part of the Arsenal squad for their pre-season plans in Germany and America.
Football.London report that the teenage defender has impressed behind the scenes, and was part of first team training at times last season.
That could well mean he gets a chance to impress Mikel Arteta once again up close when the squad return to action before the serious stuff begins.
He also assisted Rob Holding for a goal in a behind closed doors friendly against Brentford B in March, which caught the eye.
Lino Sousa could get chance to shine for Arsenal in pre-season
While his connections with Kevin Betsy from his time at youth level with England had been a factor coming to Arsenal from West Brom, the 17-year-old came for the project at Arsenal rather than any particular coach,
That is good news in the wake of Betsy’s departure to join Crawley Town as their first team manager and means he is keen to keep on improving in 2022/23.
The plan is that he will become a regular for the under-23s, but before that he will be looking to impress Arteta in pre-season if he goes away with the squad.
The Athletic reported that West Brom insiders felt Sousa is ‘outstanding’ and ‘among the best in the country’ at his age level.
Journalist Charles Watts also said that Arsenal insiders cannot stop raving about the teenage defender and want him fast-tracked at the Emirates Stadium.
Sousa was one January arrival which went under the radar but it could be fruitful for Arsenal in the longer term.
