Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly told the Reds hierarchy that he would like a little more time to decide on his future, according to The Guardian.

The 30-year-old is out of contract next summer and will be able to enter negotiations with non-English clubs over an end-of-season move as of 1 January.

Despite Jurgen Klopp wanting Wijnaldum to stay at Liverpool, talks between player and the Anfield club haven’t proven fruitful thus far.

In October, the Netherlands international played down reports he was close to a summer exit to Barcelona, but also said “we will see what happens” in the summer.

According to a report in The Guardian from Sunday, Liverpool presented Wijnaldum with a new contract offer at the start of December.

The midfielder reportedly told his club last week that he would like a few more days to decide on this future.

In addition, he is believed to have promised Liverpool he will let them know of his decision before he starts talking to any clubs, should he decide that his future lies elsewhere.

Wijnaldum has been a superb player for Liverpool over the years, clocking up over 200 appearances and being a key member of a team which, along with Klopp, has grown into a title-winning titan.

Hopefully the next few days will see more details emerge as to his future – were he to commit his future to Anfield then it would obviously be amazing, but if he doesn’t, at least the Reds can then plan accordingly for next season.
