Report: Origi unlikely to leave Liverpool on deadline day

Divock Origi is unlikely to leave Liverpool on transfer deadline day, according Sky Sports (10:24 am, 31/08).

What’s the story?

The Belgian was placed on the club’s transfer list earlier in the summer.

According to The Athletic, the Reds wanted to sign an attacker. However, a move depended on whether Xherdan Shaqiri and Origi left the club.

The Switzerland attacker swapped Liverpool for Lyon a few weeks ago, but the Belgium international is still on Merseyside.

Origi has garnered a bit of interest from clubs over the course of this summer.

What On Earth Is Going On At Benfica?!

Wolves, as well as clubs from Turkey, were interested in the centre-forward. But it seems an asking price of between £15m and £20m has made a transfer improbable.

Origi staying is a sign of bad planning

Origi staying is a sign of how bad Liverpool have performed this summer.

The Belgian should have been out of the door earlier in the window, never mind towards the end of it.

His performances over the course of his Liverpool career have been too inconsistent.

Failure to usurp Roberto Firmino, who himself is far from potent, as the club’s first-choice striker tells you all you need to know.

The Reds were abysmal last campaign as they struggled to secure a top-four place.

Firmino was one player at the forefront of the struggles, scoring just nine times. Yet he still managed to make 36 Premier League appearances compared to Origi’s nine.

You would at least expect a backup striker to provide competition, but the 26-year-old failed to do that.

Origi should have left, yet he looks to be staying in one of Liverpool’s biggest failures this summer.

Meanwhile, fans are unhappy about one thing with Jordan Henderson’s contract.
