Rangers are reportedly set to agree a new contract with youngster Josh McPake.

As reported by The Herald, the 17-year-old is set to sign a new deal at Ibrox until 2023. McPake has been with Rangers in Portugal for their pre-season training camp. The new deal will be signed once Rangers return from that trip.

McPake is considered one of Rangers’ best young talents and Steven Gerrard will have seen that at close quarters in the Algarve.

But his ability has attracted suitors. As reported by the Daily Record, the likes of Liverpool, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Roma were all keeping tabs on the player.

McPake is yet to make his first-team debut for Rangers. But, as Gerrard told Rangers TV in relation to McPake and fellow youngster Dapo Medube, the teen sensation is close.

“They’ve been around it a couple of times before, but I think today, they were around it for real.

“I think they’re close, they’re giving me something to think about, they’re on my mind.”

Securing the teenager’s commitment for the next four years is a huge boost for Rangers. The club have seen talented youngsters like Billy Gilmour and David Bates head elsewhere in recent times. So McPake’s decision is an undoubted welcome relief.

Hopefully, a first-team debut is just around the corner.
