Report: Olympiakos interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Mo Diame

Olympiakos are hoping to poach Newcastle United midfielder Mo Diame on a pre-contract agreement, according to reports in Greece.

As per SDNA, Olympiakos have identified Diame as a bargain target. With his Newcastle contract coming to its conclusion, Diame’s future at St James’ Park is in doubt.

The 31-year-old recently revealed (in an interview with The Chronicle) that his age would make it hard for him to earn a contract extension.

And his situation has led to him being dropped to the bench. With an automatic extension after a certain number of starts, Rafa Benitez has been forced to bench Diame.

But Olympiakos could throw a lifeline to the former Wigan Athletic, West Ham and Hull City midfielder this summer.

The Greek giants finished second in the top-flight, losing their title to PAOK Salonika. In a bid to win the league title back, Olympiakos are looking at summer reinforcements.

Diame is a possible option for Olympiakos, who could offer him Champions League football next season. After 10 years in England, Diame could be on his way out.

The Senegal international has racked up nearly 350 appearances in England. But he could be set for a new challenge.

Olympiakos are also reportedly interested in West Ham’s out-of-contract midfielder Samir Nasri, according to SDNA.
