Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud, could be set to sign a new deal with the Blues, putting an end to any faint hope Spurs might have had of landing the forward.
The experienced Frenchman has fought his way back into the plans of Frank Lampard. Despite playing second-fiddle to Tammy Abraham for much of the season, the former Arsenal man has proven his worth.
And according to Football.London, Chelsea are set to offer Giroud a new deal. That new deal would all but ends any hopes Spurs had of landing the big striker.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly (TeamTalk) still keen on landing Giroud this summer.
Despite only scoring two Premier League goals this term, the French international has proved to be invaluable to Frank Lampard of late. Indeed, prior to the season shut down, Giroud had started three of the last four games.
The 33-year-old’s current deal expires in June. However, it now looks like Chelsea are keen to keep hold of the forward after his recent upturn in form.
A new deal for Giroud at Chelsea means Spurs should move on – TBR View
There’s little point Spurs hanging around much now. If Giroud is going to sign a new deal with the Blues then Jose Mourinho might as well move on to new targets.
In fairness to Giroud, he has done little wrong with Chelsea. He’s always stepped up when needed and continues to use his experience to good effect.
Giroud has convinced Frank Lampard of his abilities and any new deal will be richly-deserved for the former Arsenal man.
