According to The Star, Sheffield United have identified Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie as a top target for this summer transfer window.
McBurnie starred for the Welsh outfit in the Championship last season. The 23-year-old racked up 22 goals and four assists in the second tier last campaign. This fine form clearly caught the attention of Blades boss Chris Wilder. Wilder apparently believes McBurnie is ready to make the step up to the top flight.
Sheffield United secured promotion to the Premier League last season. Wilder will now be keen to bolster his attacking contingent ahead of the new campaign. With the likes of Gary Madine and Scott Hogan having left Bramall Lane at the end of their loan deals, the Blades currently lack strength in depth up front.
McBurnie would provide Wilder with an extra attacking option to choose from. What’s more, the seven-cap Scotland international is good enough to compete for a regular starting berth. Considering the current economic climate in football, McBurnie also represents an affordable target.
Securing the services of the Swansea striker this summer would take Sheffield United a step closer to being ready for life in the Premier League.
