Report now coming from Portugal suggests £50m player may well be edging closer to Liverpool move

Liverpool have already been very busy this summer, and another signing might be near.

The Reds lured Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez to Anfield all before June had even finished, showing real ambition to build on the Premier League title win of last season under Arne Slot.

A defender seems likeliest to arrive next – despite the fact Liverpool are monitoring Alexander Isak – and a story from A Bola now suggests Marc Guehi could be nearing a move to Merseyside.

Crystal Palace close to signing Ousmane Diomande as an apparent Marc Guehi replacement

The Portuguese news outlet now state that Ousmane Diomande is almost a Crystal Palace player, after the Eagles agreed a €55m (£47m) fee with Sporting CP for the Ivorian centre-back.

It comes after Liverpool showed interest in Guehi – who Crystal Palace value at a similar sum, around £50m.

The England international only has 12 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park and is not signing fresh terms.

Seeing as Oliver Glasner already has Chris Richards, Maxence Lacroix and Chadi Riad in his centre-back department along with Guehi, it would be odd for the south Londoners to spend a club-record £47m fee on Diomande without a significant departure in the pipeline.

Therefore, we would expect the arrival of the Ivory Coast international in SE25 to free up a move to Anfield for the Crystal Palace No.6 this summer.

Marc Guehi could replace Ibrahima Konate

With Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate already at Anfield, in a system where Slot only uses two central defenders in his starting lineup, some may wonder where Guehi would even fit in at Liverpool.

However, he could well replace the France international.

TBR Football understand Liverpool are concerned after speaking to Konate about a new contract, with discussions over an extension not going well at this moment in time – the Frenchman, like Guehi, only has 12 months remaining on his deal until he becomes a free agent next summer.

Therefore, it could be a case of one in, one out for Slot in his centre-back department.
