Report: Nottingham Forest want to sign striker who resembles Romelu Lukaku - Duvan Zapata

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Nottingham Forest have enquired about signing Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata in this month’s transfer window.

The Reds have won three of their last five games and are currently 13th in the table. That is an excellent position to be in, but the difference between them and 19th-place Everton, who also want Zapata, is just five points.

Forest can’t just relax now, they need to keep picking up points, and a new striker will surely help them do that. Could Zapata be the one?

Nottingham Forest want to sign Duvan Zapata

Forest were many people’s pick to go down this season. Just one win in their first 11 games convinced several others that they are likely to go back into the Championship.

Steve Cooper’s side, however, have shown some fight recently, beating Leicester and Southampton and drawing against Chelsea in their last three Premier League games.

However, their big issue remains in front of goal. They’ve scored just 15 times in 19 games – only Wolves have a worse record in the entire Premier League since the start of this campaign.

That’s probably why Cooper is looking to bring in a new striker this month, and the report claims that Zapata is on their radar now.

Forest have apparently made an enquiry to sign the Colombian. They have floated the idea of signing him on a loan deal with an option to make that move permanent at the end of the season.

Atalanta are having none of that. They are ready to let Zapata leave, but only if Forest or Everton match their £17.5 million demand.

Zapata, 31, has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Atalanta. He has played just 622 minutes of football since the start of this season, and he will likely be open to a move elsewhere to play more regularly.

He resembles Romelu Lukaku

When Romelu Lukaku was on the verge of rejoining Chelsea from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, Riccardo Ferri was asked who his old club should sign as a replacement.

The Italian had just one answer – Zapata. He claimed that the Colombian resembled Lukaku perfectly.

Ferri said, as quoted by TMW: “At this moment, naming names is premature. The way Inter has been structured, Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez find themselves with their eyes closed, therefore, any player who replaces the Belgian must have characteristics similar to those of Lukaku or physical strength and the ability to attack forward spaces.

“Without a doubt, Zapata is certainly the one who resembles him (Lukaku) the most, but I’ll leave the task to the Inter managers.”
