Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi is eyeing a reunion with Diafra Sakho after the striker was released by Rennes, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (5/1; page 61).

Lamouchi was the boss who brought Sakho to the Ligue 1 side in January 2018. The Sun on Sunday reports that he cost £8 million from West Ham United.

Unfortunately his time in France was a disappointment. He scored two league goals for Rennes, and spent the large majority of last season on loan at Bursaspor.

He is now a free agent after barely featuring this season. And it appears that Lamouchi is keen to bring the 30-year-old to the City Ground.

The Sun on Sunday (5/1; page 61) reports that Forest hope to add the Senegal international to their ranks as they look to secure promotion out of the Championship.

TBR View – Sabri signing Sakho is gamble worth taking

Sakho’s record may concern some Forest fans who will be hoping to see some real statements made in the transfer market. He has not reached double figures for league goals since scoring 10 times for West Ham back in 2014/15.

But on a free transfer, it is perhaps fair to suggest that it is a gamble worth taking for Forest. He has played at a good level throughout his career and Lamouchi being a fan has to be a positive sign.

Forest certainly appear to need greater depth up front. Considering signing Sakho looks to be a roll of the dice, but perhaps it may prove to be a gamble that pays off in stunning fashion.
