Nottingham Forest are ready to sell Joao Carvalho to Olympiacos for £15 million this summer, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (8/3; page 59).
It has not been an easy campaign for Carvalho. The Portuguese has started just nine Championship games this term, with a further 13 appearances coming from the bench.
And he has scored one goal and contributed one assist for Sabri Lamouchi’s men.
Forest may well end the season by booking their spot in the Premier League. But it appears that Carvalho may be heading for the City Ground exit when the campaign concludes.
The Sun on Sunday (8/3; page 59) reports that Forest are prepared to let the 22-year-old join another of Evangelos Marinakis’s clubs, with Olympiacos eyeing a £15 million move.
TBR View – Carvalho departure may divide supporters
Carvalho looks to be a fairly divisive player amongst some of the Forest fans. He is clearly capable of moments of brilliance. He contributed eight assists in the league last season.
And given his age, he could potentially be worth more in the future, particularly if Lamouchi’s men do seal promotion.
However, there are clearly fans who do not believe that Carvalho is good enough to be a regular starter for the club. And those supporters may jump at the chance to potentially offload him for £15 million.
Should they miss out on going up this year, having a £15 million boost to the transfer kitty may be welcome.
But if they are promoted, perhaps they should give Carvalho the opportunity to show what he can do at the highest level in case he actually proves to be better suited to the Premier League.
