Newcastle United fans holding out any hope that Dele Alli may end up joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January look set for disappointment, with The Telegraph reporting that the Magpies will be unable to cover the midfielder’s wages.

Dele’s future in North London continues to look uncertain. The 24-year-old has been a peripheral figure for Jose Mourinho’s side this season.

The Telegraph recently hinted that Newcastle could be interested in signing Dele next month. Steve Bruce is planning to use the loan market to bolster his squad.

Unfortunately, another report from The Telegraph has suggested that a move could already be out of the question.

It is claimed that Bruce fears that he will have no money to spend in January. And with that, he would be unable to afford Dele’s wages.

It is also noted by The Telegraph that Dele is reluctant to move to the North East. So it would certainly appear that Newcastle will need to look elsewhere.

TBR View: Newcastle fans may have already been resigned to missing out

Newcastle fans may have refused to get carried away by the previous links with Dele. But it is still an ominous sign that they may be unable to make a marquee signing on loan.

Spotrac shows that Dele is on £100,000-a-week at Spurs. It is a substantial amount, but he would certainly be worth the money if he could find anything like his best form on Tyneside.

Unfortunately for the Magpies, it looks as though their hopes have already been dashed.
