Crystal Palace are interested in signing Ciaran Clark with the defender out of contract at Newcastle United at the end of the season, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Clark has been a regular fixture in Steve Bruce’s plans in recent times. He has made eight Premier League starts this season, including six since mid-December.

But it appears that he faces an uncertain future. As noted by The Telegraph, the 31-year-old’s current deal with the Magpies expires in the summer.

And while Bruce is reportedly keen to keep Clark, it looks as though he faces a fight to convince the Republic of Ireland international to stay.

The Telegraph claims that Palace have Clark on their radar. It is noted that Mamadou Sakho could leave Selhurst Park.

Clark has not always escaped criticism during his time on Tyneside. And there are likely to be some supporters who would not be too disappointed if he left.

But he has become an important player for Bruce. And he was one of the few players who arguably produced a decent performance against Leicester on Sunday – in what was his 100th appearance for the club.

So losing Clark – who earns £35,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – on a free would be a real blow for the Magpies.
