Newcastle United may have been offered fresh hope of offloading Christian Atsu this summer, with the Sunday Mirror (4/10; page 69) reporting that Nottingham Forest and Watford want the winger.
Atsu currently appears to have no future at St James’ Park. The 28-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League. And he has only made one substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup.
It is unclear whether selling Atsu would increase Steve Bruce’s chances of making any further signings. Spotrac shows that he earns £30,000-a-week, so his departure would certainly hand their wage budget a boost.
And it appears that the Ghana international does have admirers.
According to the Sunday Mirror (4/10; page 69), both Forest and the Hornets want Atsu.
TBR View: Forest need inspiration after terrible start to the season
Forest desperately need something to change after a torrid start to the campaign. They have lost their first four games and sit in the Championship’s bottom three.
Sabri Lamouchi will certainly be feeling the pressure, particularly with the pain of last season still lingering.
Atsu’s form at Newcastle hints that his arrival at the City Ground is unlikely to be a catalyst for a turnaround on its own.
But he could certainly be a dangerous player in the Championship. So perhaps Newcastle can expect to attract late bids for the 28-year-old before the deadline passes.
