According to a report from The Athletic this morning, Newcastle United will not be pursuing a move for Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard, during the January window.
Lingard has been touted as a potential signing for the Magpies. His quite superb displays for West Ham last term on loan led many to believe he’d move on in the summer. However, he stayed put, after being convinced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he’d get game time.
But with Solskjaer now gone, there is an acceptance that Lingard will leave Old Trafford. However, it won’t be in January and it won’t be to Newcastle, according to The Athletic.

It’s claimed that Newcastle won’t be going for Lingard, while West Ham remain keen too. The report suggests Lingard is fully in control of his future, and is open to leaving in the summer for nothing and starting afresh.
Of course, should Newcastle want Lingard in the summer, then it might depend on their status as a Premier League team. At the moment, as we know, the Magpies are in danger of being relegated back to the Championship.
TBR’s View: Strange Decision By Newcastle Not To Go For Lingard
There must be an underlying reason behind this. But for Newcastle to not be considering a move for a player who is proven in the Premier League is quite bizarre.
This Newcastle team needs new players. But it also needs quality players. It needs individuals who can come in and hit the ground running. Last season, Jesse Lingard proved he could do that with the Hammers.
You get the feeling this one isn’t done and dusted. But if Lingard signs elsewhere, then the Toon Army might have serious questions for PIF and Eddie Howe.
