The Chronicle have claimed that Newcastle United youngster Adam Wilson has agreed a new contract with the club despite numerous injuries throughout his early career.

Wilson, 20, has been a regular in Newcastle’s Under-23 side over the past couple of seasons – but his career has been blighted by problems to his thigh and ankle, interrupting his development and limiting him to just reserve opportunities.

An England Under-18 international, Wilson has scored five goals and created three more in 36 appearances for the Toon’s reserve side. He managed seven Premier League 2 appearances this season, scoring against Stoke and Swansea.

With doubts over his future on Tyneside, the Chronicle have now claimed that Wilson has agreed a new deal. Championship side Blackburn Rovers were interested in signing Wilson on loan a couple of seasons ago, and a new loan could be orchestrated.

TBR’s view – Wilson needs to go on loan to Championship side

Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Matt Ritchie, Joelinton, a permanent deal for Valentino Lazaro and the potential for a board of new owners to bring in some new wingers this summer, Wilson has almost no chance of first-team football.

To play catch up in terms of development, Wilson needs to go on loan to a Championship side where he play regular football throughout the 2020-21 campaign. Staying at Newcastle will just see him remain on the sidelines, as if he were injured.
