Jarrod Bowen has been a long-term Newcastle United target but Steve Bruce is ready to put this move on hold.
According to The Shields Gazette, Bowen is not Newcastle’s priority. Bruce wants to sign midfielders during the January transfer window instead of bringing in Bowen.
The Hull City winger has been in excellent form over the past two-and-a-half seasons. Since Hull dropped to the Championship, Bowen has been the standout performer.
This season, the 22-year-old already has 12 goals in 18 games. This includes 11 goals in 17 Championship matches and he has two assists as well. In total, Bowen has scored 49 goals and provided 10 assists in 117 matches for the Tigers.
His goalscoring record is seriously impressive for a young winger. This has alerted Newcastle but they could wait until the summer. Bruce will look to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window – probably on loan.
This could be a big mistake by Bruce and Newcastle. Bowen is a proven goalscorer at Championship level and he has the end product which Newcastle are lacking in the final third.
Joelinton has one goal this season while Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle are yet to get off the mark. Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron have no goals and no assists between them despite both arriving in big-money deals.
Bowen could be the man to turn things around. The Englishman, formerly of Hereford, has the quality to finish off the chances created by the likes of Saint-Maximin and Almiron.
