Newcastle United reportedly want to make a move for Hearts prodigy Aaron Hickey to bring him to St James’ Park this summer, according to Chronicle Live.
The teenage left-back has made 22 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, scoring once, as well as appearing in the club’s Scottish Cup final last season in just his third senior appearance.
Clubs previously linked with Hickey, according to The Sun, include Arsenal, Liverpool, Southampton, Norwich City, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Rangers and Celtic.
Now, Newcastle – who are reportedly on the verge of a takeover – have been linked with the 17-year-old.
Chronicle Live has claimed that Magpies scouts have watched Hickey several times this season and would be interested in adding him to their first team squad.
Hearts assistant coach Austin MacPhee has previously compared Hickey to Jonny Evans and Sergio Busquets, as reported by The Scottish Sun, while The Mirror has made comparisons with Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.
Hickey is an incredibly talented player, with an impressive number of games under his belt despite his young age, and so it’s not surprising that he is being linked with some of Britain’s best clubs.
Should the takeover be completed, it would herald a new dawn for Newcastle and their fans, who have put up with quite a few years of disappointing times – and what better way to make a statement than to beat Britain’s biggest clubs to one of the most promising youngsters on the island?
