Report: Newcastle want to sign Sassuolo defender Rogerio

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing defender Rogerio from Italian top-flight club Sassuolo.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his official website that the Brazilian left-back could be on his way to the Premier League.

It is explained that the Magpies are chasing the 22-year-old ahead of next season and are drawn to him following his excellent performances in Serie A since football resumed.

The report doesn’t state how much the left-footed full-back would cost Steve Bruce’s team, but he’s a highly-rated talent making a name for himself in Italy and is an intriguing target.

The Telegraph reports that Newcastle are likely to sign left-back Danny Rose permanently after his previous loan at St James’ Park, but it looks like they still want to strengthen in that area.

TBR’s View:

Rogerio has caught the eye during his 16 first-team appearances for Sassuolo this season and has been a regular in the senior team recently for a side that currently sit eighth in Serie A.

He is an offensive full-back that likes to push forward into the final third and has decent delivery into the box too.

The South American could be a great understudy to experienced Rose at Newcastle next season and they would be two impressive deals if they could be wrapped up.

But for now there is still uncertainty over the club’s transfer business, as the Saudi takeover bid collapsed on Thursday.
