French outlet Foot Mercato have claimed that Newcastle United are both interested in signing Real Betis star Nabil Fekir and Napoli giant Kalidou Koulibaly this summer – which cost a combined £113million.

Koulibaly, 28, is regarded as one of the best central defenders in European football at the moment – but the Senegal international is being linked with a summer exit. Newcastle are said to have contacted Napoli over a move for Koulibaly.

The African giants has helped Napoli remain unbeaten in the Champions League this season, even keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool in Italy. It is believed Gennaro Gattuso’s side will want as much as £70million for the defender.

But the report does not stop there. It is also claimed that Nabil Fekir, who is being linked with a move to Arsenal and almost joined Liverpool in 2018, is a target for the Toon. He is currently impressing in Spain with Real Betis.

The France international has had a hand in 13 goals during his 22 La Liga appearances since joining the club from Lyon last summer, and it is believed Betis want as much as £43million for the versatile attacker.

TBR’s view – Double signing would galvanise Newcastle

If Newcastle are to spend big this summer, they need to sign a right-back, land either Danny Rose or Jetro Willems on a permanent basis, a central midfielder, a striker and creativity in the final third.

Plenty of additions need to be made, then. At centre-back, though, Newcastle hardly need additions but if a player like Koulibaly is available, then he has simply got to be signed in the coming months.

He is a player that would get into any Premier League side, as would Fekir – who is needed much more on Tyneside. But landing both for a nine-figure would have every Newcastle supporter excited.
