Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is interested in signing Middlesbrough youngster Hayden Coulson, with The Sun on Sunday (8/3; page 59) reporting that the Magpies are scouting the 21-year-old ahead of the summer.

Coulson went into this season still awaiting the chance to make his first-team debut with Boro. But he has now established himself as a key player for Jonathan Woodgate’s side.

He has made 23 appearances in the Championship. And while Boro are languishing down towards the wrong end of the table, Coulson is attracting attention at the highest level.

The Sun on Sunday (8/3; page 59) reports that Bruce has instructed his scouts to keep an eye on the left-sided player. It is suggested that he could cost as much as £10 million.

TBR View – Coulson an exciting talent

Newcastle have had problems at left-back this season. Bruce has lost both Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems for the rest of the season due to injury.

Danny Rose has come in from Tottenham on loan. But it remains to be seen what the future holds for the England international beyond this season.

Coulson has shown this term that he has a frightening amount of potential. And it could be an inspired move for Newcastle to try and land him before his stock gets any higher.
