Report: Newcastle have Leeds supremo Victor Orta in sights for director of football

Newcastle and PIF are looking to plough on with their hunt for a new director of football and have Leeds supremo, Victor Orta, as one of the men in their sights.

A report from the Sun this morning claims that Newcastle are looking at Brighton’s Dan Ashworth. However, in that report, it’s also suggested that Leeds chief Orta is being eyed by the Magpies and PIF.

Orta has made a name for himself after helping Leeds back into the Premier League and subsequently, keeping them there with some astute signings such as Raphinha. He’s also a feisty character, and is often seen remonstrating in the stands while watching Leeds.

With January now just around the corner, Newcastle are looking at really turning their screw in terms of getting things sorted off the field. It’s been widely known for some time that the club are seeking a director of football.

PIF are expected to back Eddie Howe in the market in January. However, getting the right DoF in is also seen as a key priority for the club.

TBR’s View: Newcastle Landing Orta Would Certainly Be Fun

The sensible looking appointment for long-term strategy would appear to be Ashworth at Brighton. He has helped build the club from Championship to Premier League, and seems to work methodically.

However, there is no denying seeing Orta on Tyneside would be good fun. The man lives and breathes football and Leeds United at the moment. Certainly, you’d imagine if he took that passion to the northeast then Newcastle fans would get on board with it.

Ultimately, this is a crucial decision from PIF. They have to get it right, and they could do a lot worse than look at Victor Orta in all honesty.
