Italian outlet TuttoJuve have claimed that Newcastle United are interested in signing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer, and the Old Lady are willing to sanction a loan move for the Argentine striker.

Higuain, 32, has been in and out of the starting line-up under Maurizio Sarri this season, with the former Chelsea manager preferring the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala. Higuain has played 34 times, but started only 23 of those.

However, the ex-Chelsea loanee has netted eight goals and laid on the same amount in assists. But with Juve likely to want to sell a number of their players in order to balance the books, Higuain will be allowed to depart – even on loan.

That is, if the loan side are willing to pay the player’s wages. Higuain is earning a whopping £130,000 a week at Juve, but Newcastle are keen on luring the striker to Tyneside – and could be willing to pay his wages to sign the player on loan.

Higuain is not the first Juventus player to be linked with Newcastle amid a potential takeover. Indeed, TuttoJuve have also claimed that Newcastle want Juve trio Aaron Ramsey, Douglas Costa and Adrien Rabiot.

TBR’s view – Higuain the perfect Newcastle signing

A striker is needed, one that is able to hold the ball up but also fits in line with Newcastle fans’ high expectations in the transfer market – as a takeover draws close. Higuain ticks all the boxes and on loan, he is an ideal signing.

Better than a permanent signing, a loan deal would see Newcastle land Higuain for a year but not have to worry about trying to offload him when he inevitably is past his best. Still scoring goals, Higuain is ideal.

Alan Shearer was quoted by the Star as saying: “Gonzalo Higuain has scored a lot of goals throughout his career. He is 31-years-old now but his goal stats are incredible”, and the Toon legend is bang on. Higuain would be ideal for Newcastle.
