Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman could once again be heading out of St James’ Park on loan in the new season, but there is one condition that needs to be resolved first before that happens.

The 23-year-old spent the 2019/20 campaign impressing as the number one at Championship side Swansea City, who narrowly missed out on promotion in the play-offs.

According to the Shields Gazette, the shot-stopper is being lined up for a return to Welsh outfit Swansea and he’s keen on playing once again at the Liberty Stadium.

But the report explains that Newcastle want Woodman to sign a fresh contract with them before any loan transfer is sealed.

His current deal with the Magpies is due to expire at the end of next summer and Steve Bruce’s side want hi to commit his future.

TRB’s View:

With Martin Dubravka  firmly set at the Newcastle number one for now, it makes sense for Woodman to be playing regular first-team football elsewhere and further down the line he could take over the gloves at St James’ Park.

Woodman would be able to hit the ground running next season if he returns to a familiar surrounding in Swansea and it’s sensible on Newcastle’s part to tie down an impressive youngster first.

He is an agile goalkeeper that has represented England through various age groups on the international stage up to the Under-21s and was a part of the Lions team that won the Under-17s World Cup back in 2017.
