The Evening Chronicle have claimed that Newcastle United want to tie up a deal for Rafa Benitez in the next fortnight, with talks ongoing between club and manager.
Former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager Benitez’s current deal ends in the summer. From June 30 onwards, he will be allowed to leave the club and speak with new teams. He is expected to have interest from China and Europe.
Benitez watched on as Newcastle earned an excellent 1-0 win away at Leicester City last time out thanks to Ayoze Perez’s header. It all but gifted the Toon with Premier League safety.
The Express claim Benitez is currently earning £77,000 a week at Newcastle. Toon fans are concerned that Benitez will leave St. James’ Park at the end of the season, but the latest update is good news.

It is believed that Newcastle are looking to tie up a deal for the Spaniard in the next fortnight, meaning an announcement could be made before May.
TBR’s view
The news will be an enormous boost to Newcastle fans. Benitez has taken a somewhat Championship side in many respects to tenth in the Premier League, and with minimal investment, they have avoided the drop this season.
Benitez has had to rely on his excellent man management skills to get Newcastle over the line. But if the Toon are to push on and establish themselves as challenging for Europe, investment is needed.
Benitez is unlikely to sign a new deal without the promise of investment or ambition. A deal in the next fortnight sounds hugely positive.
