Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles may have perhaps been dealt a blow, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Magpies want to take the Arsenal youngster on an initial loan deal.
Maitland-Niles is attracting plenty of attention this summer. The Sun recently reported that Chelsea were the only London-based side in the Premier League not to have the 22-year-old on their radar.

The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal are willing to sell Maitland-Niles – who is also wanted by Wolves – for £20 million.
The report notes however, that Newcastle would prefer to sign the midfielder on loan with an obligation to buy.

TBR View: Arsenal would be wrong to accept loan offer from Newcastle
With so many clubs interested, it is difficult to see Newcastle’s bid winning the day. Unless they are willing to offer a much bigger fee ahead of next summer than most will pay during this window, Steve Bruce’s side are surely fighting a losing battle.
The Daily Mirror recently suggested that Arsenal are reluctantly ready to sell Maitland-Niles to help fund the club’s summer plans.
The Mirror also claimed that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the academy graduate. So loaning him out would make little sense.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle are willing to sign him permanently immediately. But based on previous reports, their current stance is surely going to leave them empty-handed.
