Report: Newcastle want Adrien Rabiot
Adrien Rabiot is the latest player to apparently find himself on the radar of Newcastle United, according to a report from Calciomercato.
The Magpies are being linked with almost everyone, it seems, following the takeover of the club last week.
They certainly have the funds to sign most. But they are in the interesting position where they need to get themselves into a place on the pitch where they can attract more of the world’s best first.
There are surely going to be some huge statements along the way. And perhaps one player who may help Newcastle send out a big message is Rabiot.
Calciomercato reports that the Juventus midfielder is wanted by the Magpies.
And it is suggested that he could leave the Old Lady in January or next summer. His contract – worth around £114,000-a-week – expires in 2023.
Rabiot joining Newcastle at some stage seems plausible
Rabiot has had an interesting career to date. The Frenchman has made 320 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain and Juve.
But some may be tempted to argue that the 26-year-old has not yet managed to realise his full potential.
If Juventus are prepared to let him go, it is surely not out of the question for the midfielder to end up on Tyneside.
He would have that position of being one of the first names on the team sheet, while also being able to demand a lucrative contract.
But he is one of these players that will surely want to see progress before moving to St James’ Park. He is not going to want to be involved in a relegation battle this season.
But, of the big names Newcastle have been linked with, Rabiot is perhaps one that could make a lot of sense.
