Newcastle want Nabil Fekir this summer despite being frustrated in their attempts to sign the Frenchman during the January transfer window, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (29/5; page 75).

Fekir is a player who seems to be linked with a Premier League move in every single window. The Sunday Mirror notes that he saw a £53 million move to Liverpool fall through in 2018.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are long-time admirers of the 28-year-old. But perhaps it may be Newcastle who bring him to England instead of the Gunners.

The Sunday Mirror (29/5; page 75) reports that Newcastle were left frustrated as they tried to sign Fekir in January. But they remain in the running for the attacking midfielder.

It is noted that he is now valued at £30 million. And Eddie Howe is keen to bring him to St James’ Park this summer.

Newcastle want Nabil Fekir

Fekir has just enjoyed his best La Liga campaign when it comes to goal contributions. He scored six goals and provided eight assists in the top-flight for Real Betis. He reached double figures for both goals and assists in all competitions.

Admittedly, he has probably not kicked on to the level some expected. Laurent Koscielny even suggested that he was a ‘bit like Messi’ back in 2016. And he left Lyon having scored 69 goals in 193 games.

He had a serious injury while in France. But he has largely avoided any problems while in Spain. That may encourage Newcastle as they weigh up a move over the coming months.

Newcastle obviously have real potential. And the fans will be excited for the signings they make after the success they enjoyed from January onwards.

Perhaps it would be risky to target Fekir given that he may not have quite lived up to expectations. But if the move pays off, it could be a masterstroke.
