Newcastle United representatives watched Brentford forward Said Benrahma during their 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, according to The Northern Echo.
The 24-year-old has been instrumental in the Bees’ push towards promotion to the Premier League and is attracting top-flight interest.
Benrahma has scored eight times this season, registering six assists. The 2019/20 campaign has seen him strike up a formidable relationship with Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbuemo.
Newcastle pursued Jarrod Bowen from the Championship during the January transfer window. The Magpies didn’t believe he was value for money, however, and decided against a move (Chronicle Live).
Benrahma typically operates as a left-winger but can also play on the other flank or in the No.10 role.
The Sun previously reported that Benrahma is valued at £15 million, with Leicester and Arsenal also thought to be keen on the Algerian trickster.
Newcastle are currently 12th in the Premier League and Bruce is still striving for consistency.
The January window did see him land three players. Danny Rose arrived on loan from Tottenham, following Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro into St James’ Park.
TBR View – Benrahma is exactly the signing that Newcastle fans crave
Supporters of Newcastle want to be entertained and boy would they get that from Benrahma.
His dazzling trickery, eye for a goal and ability to go past players with ease would make him a firm hit.
Of course, Benrahma hasn’t performed in the Premier League yet and the proof will come in the performances.
At £15 million, the Algerian would represent a snip and he could have the potential to get St James’ Park rocking.
