Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi, according to reports.
This apparent interest stems from a report in L’Equipe. The French publication are suggesting that Lyon are keen on signing the Algerian defender this summer.
From there, the Spanish press has begun reporting on the news and have suggested that Newcastle are also keen on his signature.
El Desmarque claims that the Magpies are also keen on the player, a view shared by Estadio Deportivo.

They suggest that any deal for the player would cost up to €20 million (£17.6m) but that the Seville-based club are hopeful of tying Mandi down to a new contract, including a €50 million (£44m) release clause in that deal.
Newcastle United would be right to make a move for Mandi. The 28-year-old has proven himself a top player in La Liga and would add some serious clout to Newcastle’s current defensive options.
But it seems plenty rests on Betis’s own attempts to secure his long-term future as well as Lyon’s interest before Newcastle can have a realistic chance of securing the player this summer.
