Newcastle United are reportedly looking at Mauricio Pochettino as a potential new manager after their Saudi-backed takeover takes place.
It appears that the Argentine has become the number one choice to take Newcastle into their new era post-takeover.
However, Newcastle already have a boss who has done a fine job this season.
Steve Bruce arrived from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, replacing the extremely popular Rafa Benitez.
It was a divisive decision that had many predicting a rock-bottom season for Newcastle in the Premier League. However, Bruce has squeezed the best out of this Newcastle team and the Magpies were looking good for Premier League survival before football’s postponement due to the global health crisis.

So replacing the local statesmen would seem a bit harsh. Indeed, as reported by The Chronicle, Newcastle’s new owners will not be making any knee-jerk decisions regarding Bruce’s status at the club.
Instead, they will reportedly take some time to see how Newcastle are currently run under Bruce’s lead.
But the report also makes it clear that Newcastle could be looking at Pochettino in the near future. That would mean releasing Bruce, to the tune of a reported £3 million compensation and any additional bonuses for keeping the Magpies in the Premier League.
That is a sizable compensation amount, especially considering The Sun reported last summer that Bruce cost £4 million in compensation when heading to Tyneside from Hillsborough.
That would represent something of a financial loss for Newcastle but considering the vast wealth of those involved in the bid to takeover at St James’ Park, it will likely be a small price to pay if it means appointing a dream coach.
