Newcastle United are said to be among the admirers for former Watford defender Adrian Mariappa, who is available on a free transfer this summer.
That is according to a report from The Voice, who often report on the subject of Jamaican football. Mariappa is a former Jamaican football team captain.
The report suggests that Newcastle United are one of the player’s admirers in the Premier League. Other clubs mentioned are newly promoted Leeds United, Burnley, and Championship side Bristol City.

Mariappa is a free agent after leaving Watford for the second time in his career following their relegation from the Premier League.
The 33-year-old would undoubtedly bring experience to the current Newcastle team and played 20 times in the Premier League last season.
It would be an odd signing from Newcastle, considering the seemingly incoming arrival of Rob Holding. However, with Mariappa also capable at right-back he could be being brought in as versatile cover.
It would not be the first time that Newcastle went after Mariappa. Back in January 2012, as reported by the BBC, Alan Pardew was trying to bring the player to St James’ Park but eventually failed. Mariappa went on to join Reading in the summer.
Whilst, not an eye-catching signing in an area Newcastle fans want to see improved, Mariappa would indeed provide experience and cover in different positions.
Low-key, this could be a shrewd squad addition within the right wage bracket.
