Newcastle United will reportedly make a move for Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez in the summer.
That is according to a report from SportBild, who suggest that the Frenchman could be on his way out of Bavaria this summer.
Bayern Munich spent a reported (The Guardian) £68 million on Hernandez in 2019, with the World Cup winner expected to become the main left-back at the Allianz Arena.
However, he suffered a serious ankle injury earlier this season and has lost his place at left-back to wing-convert Alphonso Davies.
Whilst he has also been used regularly as a centre-back at Bayern, Newcastle are seemingly hoping to tempt Bayern into a sale.
It is suggested that the Magpies have made an enquiry regarding the availability of the former Atletico Madrid star.
However, it is also suggested that Bayern are unlikely to sell the player, considering he has only been at the club for one season. Bayern boss Hansi Flick has also, reportedly, claimed that Hernandez will get another chance to shine at the club next season.
Newcastle United’s takeover by a Saudi-backed consortium is seemingly getting closer and closer to completion which would allow the club to make such extravagant signings.
So whilst it seems Hernandez might be out of reach, the development that Newcastle is looking at a move for such an impressive player can only be exciting.
