Newcastle United are reportedly set to receive a bid for their midfielder Sean Longstaff imminently.
According to the Telegraph, Manchester United are expected to make an offer in the next 48 hours for the Magpies ace.
It is understood that the 21-year-old is a top target for Old Trafford officials and developments could be made in the next few days.
The report details that Rafael Benitez would be reluctant to lose the player that he introduced to the first team from the academy.
Longstaff has turned out to be a gem of a player under Benitez and broke his way into the senior set-up this season.
The central midfielder only played 13 times across all competitions, but looked brilliant before a knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Longstaff is unsurprisingly a fan favourite at St James’ Park having come through the academy and he looks ready to become a regular in the Newcastle XI.
The Englishman is a no-nonsense central midfielder that is great at tackling and can do the defensive side of his game well.
He also provides a box-to-box role with bursts forward into attack and he scored twice in his 13 first-team games for Newcastle.
The midfielder would be a significant loss if Manchester United can prize him away, as he looks to have a bright future ahead of him and fans started to get a taste of his impact before his injury knock.
There were many comparisons between him and West Ham’s Declan Rice, who is now a part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
