Newcastle United are set to beat Rangers to the signature of Queens Park teenager Reagan Thomson, with The Sun reporting that the Magpies have agreed a deal for the 16-year-old.
Thomson has attracted plenty of attention. The 16-year-old has made seven league appearances for their first-team this season.

The Sun reports that the Magpies had had a £35,000 bid for Thomson rejected. It was suggested that Rangers were also looking to sign the teenager.
However, the Gers have not been willing to match the improved offer that Newcastle have since made. And The Sun is now reporting that he is set to discuss personal terms before completing a January move to St James’ Park.

It does look to be a potential blow for Steven Gerrard’s men to miss out. It is telling that Premier League clubs are also interested.
However, it is intriguing that Rangers have stepped away from matching Newcastle’s bid. It is not clear what the Magpies have now offered, but it is presumably still going to be a five-figure fee given their previous offer.
That is hardly going to break the bank for Rangers. So perhaps they feel that it would be too much of a gamble to compete for a player who has a lot of development ahead of him.
It may be a decision that backfires. So it will be fascinating to see how the next few years play out for Thomson. Those next few years will seemingly take place on Tyneside.
