Report: Newcastle to rival Arsenal for Everton star
Newcastle United are planning to rival Arsenal for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Of course, there appears to be no end in sight to the links between the Magpies and some of the most exciting talents in the Premier League and world football.
And it now seems that they have their eye on one of the top flight’s best goalscorers.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle want Calvert-Lewin. The likes of the Gunners, Manchester City and Manchester United all also like the 24-year-old.
He has scored 32 times in the Premier League since the start of the 2019/2020 campaign, including three goals at the beginning of this season.
But obviously, Everton are not going to let Calvert-Lewin leave Goodison Park on the cheap. He has been their talisman in recent years.
Newcastle would make huge statement by signing Calvert-Lewin
His game was seemingly transformed following the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti on Merseyside.
And while he has been injured for much of this term, he has continued to impress under Rafa Benitez.
In fact, no club has conceded more goals from Calvert-Lewin than Newcastle. The Magpies have had to pick the ball out of the back of the net five times.
It will be interesting to see what Calvert-Lewin makes of the interest. Newcastle clearly have a lot of work to do to move themselves to the right end of the table.
Arsenal meanwhile, also have progress to make. So it would be a real statement for either to go on and sign Calvert-Lewin – particularly with both Manchester clubs also lurking in the background.
