Report: Newcastle to hold further talks with £30m star today, Magpies want deal done by tomorrow
Newcastle United have had a rollercoaster January transfer window, to put it mildly.
The Magpies have landed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood so far.
However, a third signing has eluded Newcastle so far, and there have been disappointments along the way.
But now, with just a few days left before the window closes, the Magpies’ luck seems to be turning once again.
Newcastle are seemingly closing in on Lyon and Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
According to Chronicle Live, the Magpies are holding further talks with the 24-year-old today.
And Newcastle are apparently hoping that they can land Guimaraes before the weekend.
The outlet claims the Magpies and Lyon have settled the outline terms of a preliminary agreement.
Newcastle will reportedly pay £30million for Guimaraes, but the deal is not yet complete.
Details relating to the way in which Newcastle’s payments will be structured still need to be finalised, along with the final agents’ fees for the transfer.
Once those are signed off, Guimaraes will have to complete a medical and confirm personal terms before he can complete his switch to St James’ Park.
Guimaraes is currently on international duty with Brazil preparing for a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.
However, Newcastle officials have reportedly put plans in place to conduct a medical in South America.
This in the hope the Magpies can complete a deal ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline-day.
Chronicle Live has also played down reports of Tottenham possibly launching a counter-offer.
Newcastle are reportedly the only club to have held formal discussions with the Lyon hierarchy.
