Stoke City have reportedly seen a move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle dissolve and it looks unlikely to take place this summer.
According to the Chronicle, the Championship outfit have baulked at the £15million price tag for the centre-forward.
It is understood that Stoke can’t afford the transfer fee or wages of the 28-year-old.
The report details that Gayle is “content” to stay at St James’ Park for the new campaign and fight for a spot in Steve Bruce’s team.
Gayle spent last season out loan in the Championship, scoring 24 goal and supplying eight assists in 41 games across all competitions for West Brom.
The English attacker is now back with Newcastle, but is yet to feature in pre-season due to a calf injury.

TBR’s View:
With Gayle’s exit looking unlikely, he could turn out to be a useful weapon up Bruce’s sleeve at Newcastle.
He is someone with 59 goals in 100 Championship games and it makes sense that the Magpies will demand a sizeable fee for him.
But on the flip side his Premier League return is 21 goals in 99 games and he’s not quite had the same success in the top-flight.
Newcastle have new signing Joelinton as their frontline striker and Yoshinori Muto is another option, but Gayle should certainly feel confident of plenty of minutes if he can regain fitness and show some form.
He’s an attacker with great pace and movement, while he’s clinical in the penalty area.
