The Northern Echo have claimed that Sassuolo midfielder Stefano Sensi remains a target for Newcastle United after first being linked with a move to St. James’ Park last summer.
The 23-year-old has been scouted by Newcastle all year as per the report, after an excellent campaign in Serie A with Sassuolo. He has played 23 times in all competitions, and even scored in a 3-3 draw against Fiorentina.
His form saw Italy manager Roberto Mancini give him his first cap against USA back in November. He played for Italy a second time on Tuesday, scoring once in a 6-0 win over Licheinstein.
The Echo claim Newcastle are keen on the player, while the Chronicle reported last year that the midfielder was worth a whopping £21.4million. He has a contract at Sassuolo until the summer of 2020.

TBR’s view
Newcastle need a central midfielder. Mo Diame’s contract looks set to expire, while Isaac Hayden remains unsettled and wants to rejoin his family in the south of England.
Ki Sung-yueng has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines, and Jonjo Shelvey’s future is in doubt after a lack of game time. A new midfielder could be needed then.
Sensi would be the perfect combination alongside Sean Longstaff. Small, but tenacious, his excellent stamina would combine perfectly with the more composed Longstaff. Sensi’s contract is likely to make him available.
