Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou this summer, but face plenty of competition.
Amadou, 26, joined La Liga outfit Sevilla last summer from Lille and clocked up 32 appearances in red and white. But he struggled to hold down a regular place – with 14 of those outings coming from the bench.
It is believed Sevilla are willing to offload the France youth international, who will feel somewhat hard done by at failing to receive a fair whack in the starting eleven at Sevilla. The Spanish side paid £13million last summer.
Now, Sevilla want a similar figure if they are to sell Amadou, who can play at centre-back, holding midfield and even more advanced in more of a box-to-box role. Saint-Etienne have been in talks, but they are struggling to agree a fee.
Newcastle have been mentioned as a club that are interested in Amadou’s services and they could make a move for the Cameroon-born ace – but Spanish side Getafe and an unnamed German club are also keen.

TBR’s view – Amadou would solve a lot of Newcastle problems
That is because his versatility is crucial. It is clear that Steve Bruce wants to bring another centre-back to the club, with The Toon reportedly in talks to sign Manchester United youngster Axel Tuanzebe.
The club have lost Mo Diame and Ki Sung-yueng struggled to make an impact last time around. A new midfielder could also be crucial. Signing Amadou would give Newcastle new cover in both areas.
For a fee of £13million, Amadou has plenty of time left in him at the top level and given the confidence to start more often than not – something he did not get at Sevilla – he could become a Toon star.
