Newcastle United staff have been left bewildered why they didn’t sign Hamza Choudhury yesterday, the Telegraph report (21:26).
Confusion at Newcastle
Steve Bruce had wanted Choudhury from Leicester City for much of the summer and it seemed that Newcastle had an easy route to land the midfielder.
However, Newcastle apparently appeared to be reluctant to pay the loan fee Leicester wanted and his wages, which caused them to miss out.
Choudhury, himself, apparently would have welcomed the move to the North East.
But he will now be forced to fight for his place at the King Power Stadium.
Disappointing deadline day
Newcastle’s failure to sign anybody on deadline day leaves Bruce with exactly the same squad that he finished last season with.

Joe Willock was the Magpies’ only signing throughout the summer transfer window, which has to be considered a big disappointment.
If Choudhury had arrived Newcastle could have freshened up their midfield significantly, but Bruce will now be forced to pick between the likes of Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff to play alongside Willock again.
Newcastle have started the season in poor fashion and their lack of activity in the transfer market will do little to lift spirits on Tyneside.
