Many staff at Newcastle United apparently rate Freddie Woodman as a future number one for them, the Athletic report.

Future first choice

Woodman has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle this sumer, after suffering from a lack of first-team action in recent years.

The goalkeeper has been sent out on loan and always impressed, but Steve Bruce has seemed reluctant to use him.

Newcastle have a strong set of goalkeeping options, with both Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka capable Premier League stoppers.

But both of those are unavailable currently, which could provide Woodman with a chance.

Establishing his place?

And there are some at Newcastle who feel that he has a real chance of establishing himself, according to the latest update.

Newcastle’s staff apparently rate Woodman higher than Fraser Forster, who left St. James’ Park and ultimately went on to play for England.

If Woodman was to leave Newcastle it could, therefore, be a real disappointment to those inside the club.

And it remains to be seen whether the Magpies will opt to sanction his departure this summer or keep hold of him for another year.
