Football website 90Min have claimed that Newcastle United’s prospective new owners have shortlisted six English-based players to sign this summer, as well as lining up new contract for both Sean and Matty Longstaff.
The report claims Manchester City star John Stones and Manchester United defender Chris Smalling – currently on loan at AS Roma – is attracting interest from Newcastle’s potential new board room. But they are not the only ones.
Norwich City trio Jamal Lewis, Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell are all said to be interesting Newcastle, with the report stating that despite links to Nabil Fekir and Philippe Coutinho, the incoming owners want to sign British players.
Aston Villa’s John McGinn is also a target, but has been previously linked given that Steve Bruce signed the Scot for Aston Villa during his time as manager at Villa Park. Both Longstaff brothers will also be offered new deals.

TBR’s view – Which of the six would be good signings?
Newcastle are well stocked at centre-back and although the report claims they could splash £65million on Stones and Smalling, central defence is the last place that needs improving. However, the other four players would be top signings.
A right-back is needed with DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth struggling, while Javi Manquillo is due to leave in June. Aarons would be an ideal signing, as would Lewis, given Danny Rose and Jetro Willems are only on loan.
Newcastle need a way of connecting the midfield to attack and instead of relying on Miguel Almiron to do that, cover should be brought in. Cantwell and McGinn have starred this season, and would be stunning signings.
