The Chronicle have claimed that Newcastle United will complete the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Niall Brookwell after he was released by Liverpool – fending off competition from two other Premier League sides.

Brookwell impressed for Liverpool’s youth team this season – making nine appearances in the Under-18 Premier League and having a hand in five goals, scoring twice and creating three more.

He has shown impressive versatility, playing at centre-back, central midfield and even on the right of midfield. However, Liverpool have decided against keeping Brookwell. Newcastle are set to announce his signing on Friday.

The Toon beat Burnley and Crystal Palace to Brookwell’s signature, with the youngster set to join up with the Toon’s under-23 side. TransferMarkt claim he has the same agent as Danny Rose and Yoshinori Muto.

TBR’s view – Newcastle pressing on despite latest takeover update

The Independent have claimed that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed bid is still waiting Premier League approval – with the report confident that a takeover will eventually go through. However, it is set to take time.

But Steve Bruce’s comments about transfers this morning, as well as the club seemingly pressing on in the transfer market, is a sign that the club are planning for life without a takeover. Brookwell is another sign.
