Newcastle United have set up talks with the representatives of Boubacar Kamara as they look towards sealing a move for the midfielder during the January transfer window, according to a report from The Sun.

Supporters can expect to hear a lot about Kamara over the coming months. He is out of contract with Marseille at the end of the campaign. And he has been linked with a host of clubs.

Arsenal and Barcelona both apparently want the Frenchman. But it appears that Newcastle are looking to steal a march on their rivals for his signature.

The Sun reports that talks over a pre-contract deal are on the cards. And should they be able to finalise terms for the summer, the Magpies will offer up to £10 million to the Ligue 1 side to ensure that he joins during the January transfer window.

It is noted that Eddie Howe feels that Kamara is too good a player to miss out on.

Wrapping up Boubacar Kamara deal an ideal way for Newcastle to kick off January transfer window

It looks to be imperative that Newcastle hit the ground running when the window opens. They face Southampton, Watford and Leeds in their three league games in January.

Those are three sides all within reach of the Magpies. So they will not want to miss out on the opportunity to pick up some big points – while also denying some of their relegation rivals in the process.

It may be a lot to expect Kamara to hit the ground running should he arrive. But the boost of getting new signings through the door could still be massive for the Magpies.
